The door to the unknown

They say there is a world beyond the known
Where, when we close our eyes and listen and see
We see colours
We hear sounds
We feel our tears
And can listen to our heart beat
Yet we often don’t go there
It’s a closed door
Hidden from the sun, with moss around it’s corners
Saddled by a lock to which we have lost the key
And then one day there is this huge gust of wind
Knocking down everything in its way
Breaking down the barriers we had kept so safe and hidden
The door flings open
And all that we see inside
Is really a vacuum
There is nothing to hide away
Nothing to shelter from the blazing sun
We were scared we would find a piece of our soul inside
What remains though is only a shell
